IDE (Integrated Drive Electronics) is the connection that is
used in connecting the motherboard with the hard drive. The cable fits into the
pins both on the hard drive and the motherboard to provide the connection. EIDE
is just an enhanced version of IDE (hence the name Enhanced Integrated Drive
Electronics) and it just provides a faster transfer rate (double that of IDE)
between the hard drive and motherboard. SATA is the newest version of the
connections, operating at a significantly higher rate than the previous
connections. It also uses smaller cables, allowing better air flow within the
computer.
